As your number one French rugby website, you can rely on us to be the one that brings you the most interesting articles as we continually push back the boundaries of learning. Here we go with one of Barry Mutuel’s bright ideas, an appreciation of the, wait for it, number one...

Marcus di RolloMarcus di Rollo

Move over Fabien Pelous, we’ve got a new folk hero at the Stade Ernest-Wallon. A centre who was capped 21 times by Scotland, Di Rollo’s time in Toulouse was as unspectacular as it was unproductive. His career in the famous red and black maillot lasted precisely one minute of one game, via a 79th minute as a substitute in a win over Dax in October 2007. Persistent medical problems meant he left soon after and he’s now coaching Watsonians RFC.

Alexandre AlbouyAlexandre Albouy

If you believe a long-held belief that does the rounds in Wales, you’ll know that every player who’s worn the famous red jersey is supposedly guaranteed a ticket for life at every Wales game. If the same is true in France, look out for a smug looking Alexandre Albouy in the queue for a half-time merguez. Why the smug face? Because the 31 year old Castres’ scrum-half’s ticket for each les Bleus game comes on the back of one cap, with that cap being as a result of a one-minute appearance off the substitute’s bench during the 2002 Six Nations clash with Italy.

Mourat OuembaevMourat Ouembaev

The lower echelons of French rugby are synonymous as being the home of players from the world's lits froids de rugby. However, one such player has found himself dining at French rugby's top table over the years. All hail ex-Agen, Grenoble and Beziers flanker Mourat Ouembaev, the one and only Kazakhstan player to have played in French rugby's top flight. His tour of duty around l'Ovalie and beyond encompassed the tail end of the 90s and the early-to mid part of the last decade.

Pablo HuetePablo Huete

You may want to consider getting out a bit more if you knew that Pablo will be the one and only Chilean plying his trade in French rugby this coming season. A close-season signing from New Zealand side Tasman, this promising 22-year-old lock is looking forward to packing down in the maison de chaudière for Castres.

Benetton TrevisoTremendous Treviso

Italian teams don't get much joy when it comes to European competition. That's especially true of the Heineken Cup, and nowhere more so than when they travel to France to play their group games. However, one team has achieved the unlikely feat of winning a match on French soil when on 29 October 2004, Treviso travelled to Bourgoin more in hope than expectation. The Italians raced into a shock 0-31 half-time lead, thanks to a hat-trick of tries from winger Dennis Dallan and one from current Clermont centre Gonzale Canale. They added a second half penalty to win the game 0-34 to become the one and only Italian team to win an H-Cup game in France.

Jacky DjuricJacky Djuric

There aren’t many rugby websites that take you to Bosnia, via Chile and Kazakhstan in the same article, but we do. When we talk about the world’s lits froids de rugby, Bosnia is right down there. Think of Bosnia and you think Herzegovina, Arnela Odžaković, who famously bagged a 5th place finish at the 2006 Karate World Championship, Ratko Mladić and börek, a family of baked or fried filled pastries made of a thin flaky dough known as yufka. You don’t think of rugby players. But, there has been one Bosnian who’s made his mark in France. The man in question is Jacky Djuric, a nippy winger who played ten times for Fédérale 1 outfit Chalon-sur-Saône between 2006-08. Odlično urađeno Jacky!

Jamie NoonJamie Noon

When it comes to fitness, durability and reliability, look no further than Jamie Noon. The Brive centre excelled himself during the 2009-10 campaign. Despite playing in one of the toughest leagues in the world for a team that for the most part was struggling to stave off the threat of relegation, the 37-times capped Englishman played in all but one of les Correzains’ 26 Top 14 games. Not only that, he started all twenty five games and was only off the field for 44 minutes in total for those games.
